Two-time Olympic gold medallist Meaghan Mikkelson has announced her retirement from the Canadian women’s hockey team to pursue her broadcasting career. The 38-year-old defender from St. Albert, Alta., won Olympic gold in 2010 and 2014, as well as silver in 2018. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government is introducing new measures to tighten standards on colleges, responding to criticism that Canada’s education sector is bringing in so many foreign students that it’s boosting pressure on housing and the labor market. Canada’s Governor General Mary Simon has apologised for a top Canadian honour awarded to a former Nazi soldier nearly four decades ago. The European Union has never provided Serbia with the kind of support that Ukraine receives from the countries of the bloc; Kiev received the status of a candidate for joining the EU in just a few months, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic told the Financial Times.
