The transfer of long-range Taurus missiles by Germany to Ukraine will not lead to an escalation. This will help to end the war as soon as possible.
Kuleba dismissed the German government’s concern that the transfer of long-range missiles would escalate.
“Firstly, because other partners have already supplied missiles with a similar range. Secondly, no previous decision by Germany to supply Ukraine with a new type of weapon has led to an escalation. On the contrary, German weapons have already saved many Ukrainian lives,” the minister said.
As the head of the Foreign Ministry noted, fears that Ukraine could use Taurus missiles against targets in Russia are “unfounded.”
“We will only use missiles within our borders to liberate what is rightfully ours in accordance with the UN Charter and international law,” Kuleba said.
Taurus missiles for Ukraine.
It is worth noting that, according to media reports, Ukraine asked Germany to provide long-range Taurus cruise missiles with a range of up to 500 kilometers. However, the request was denied.
German media reported that Berlin could soon announce the transfer of Taurus. However, negotiations with the US are ongoing.
Also, according to Spiegel, Olaf Scholz wants to make technical modifications to the missiles in order to make it impossible for the Armed Forces of Ukraine to strike on the territory of Russia, but this does not apply to the territory of the occupied Crimea.
Meanwhile, the Bundestag continues to criticize Scholz for refusing to provide Ukraine with long-range missiles.
