Statements by Russian President Vladimir Putin that a joint Lithuanian-Polish-Ukrainian military brigade intends to occupy the western part of Ukraine are simply ridiculous. Such statements are nothing but disinformation.

In 2014, Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine created a joint military unit – the Brigade of the Grand Hetman Konstantin Ostrozhsky, which is designed to strengthen the countries’ strategic partnership and help Ukraine reform in accordance with NATO principles.

“Currently, five Lithuanian officers serve in the headquarters. Five people occupy some territories? It looks ridiculous. Let’s understand that disinformation is part of the information war,” the Lithuanian Defense Minister said.

According to him, this is a message for the domestic audience of Russia.

Statements by Russians about the “seizure of the western regions of Ukraine”

It should be noted that last week the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation, Sergei Naryshkin, said that “the Polish leadership is intensifying its mood to introduce control in the western territories of Ukraine by deploying its troops there, in connection with which it is planned to significantly increase the number of combined arms Lithuanian-Polish -Ukrainian brigade.

Putin, in turn, said that it was “a regular, well-equipped military unit, which is planned to be used for operations on the territory of Ukraine.”

“The prospect is obvious: if Polish units enter, for example, Lviv or other territories of Ukraine, then they will remain there, and will remain forever,” Putin said at a meeting with permanent members of the Russian Security Council.
